Day-by-day Itinerary
Day 1 Yangon

Arrive in Yangon and head to the Buddhist heart of Myanmar – the magnificent Shwedagon Pagoda. Wander downtown during the balmy evening and explore the many restaurants and bars now cropping up in this increasingly cosmopolitan city.

Day 2 Yangon - Bagan

Fly up to Bagan and begin the day exploring the Ananda pagoda, dating from the 12th century and famed for its gilded sikhara tower at its peak; choose from bicycle, car or horse and cart for your preferred way to explore the temples. Later in the day, climb the Gawdawpalin or Bupaya pagodas for perfect sunset panorama views of the temples and plain – and in the evening, enjoy some Myanmar wine over dinner at one of Bagan’s growing number of classy, varied restaurants.

Day 3 Bagan - Inle Lake

After breakfast at your hotel, fly to Heho airport and transfer via car to the characterful town of Nyaung Shwe, the gateway to Inle Lake. If you go for the superior hotel option, a boat will take you to your hotel on the lake (standard hotels are in Nyaung Shwe). There will be plenty of time in the afternoon to relax or for sightseeing around the lake to see the local Intha fishermen employing their traditional one-leg rowing technique. Check out the fine handicrafts in Nampan village and, if the time is right, see the floating markets that are a photographer’s dream.

Day 4 Inle Lake (Indein)

After breakfast, transfer to the jetty and embark on a traditional long boat for an excursion to nearby Indein village. En route to this ancient settlement, we'll stop by traditional Intha floating markets and meet local shopkeepers selling handmade wares.

Indein village, famous for its crumbling and atmospheric groups of ancient pagodas, is tucked beyond the southwestern banks of Inle Lake. This 17th century pagdoa complex, contains numerous bamboo walkways and bridges, and is steeped in local history. Spend the day exploring these incredible ruins and surrounding hillside overlooking the lake. In the evening, take in the spectacular sunset from the boat on the ride back to Nyaung Shwe.

Overnight in Nyaung Shwe.

Day 5 Inle Lake - Yangon

Flying back to Yangon, there’s still time to get those last minute gifts at Bogyoke Market (formerly called Scott Market). Haggle with the best of them for some of the country’s finest paintings, crafts and textiles.
