With its strong Scottish connections from colonial times, Myanmar is a country steeped in golf, with a wonderful variety of courses on offer from the plains of Bagan to the Shan hills. With this tour, travel to some of the most exotic places on Earth and practice your swing as you also lap up an ancient culture.
Deluxe Hotel Supplement:
US$16 per day
Fly up to Bagan and begin the day exploring the Ananda pagoda, dating from the 12th century and famed for its gilded sikhara tower at its peak; choose from bicycle, car or horse and cart for your preferred mode of transport around the temples. The area is renowned for its lacquerware and artisan crafts, which make perfect souvenirs or gifts. Later in the day, climb the Gawdawpalin or Bupaya pagodas for perfect sunset panorama views of the temples and plain.
Spend the day playing golf at the 18-hole Bagan Golf Resort, enjoying your game amongst the unique sight of the surrounding temples. We can also arrange hot-air balloon rides that will give you spectacular sunrise views (additional charge).
On your second day in the area, head south east of Bagan to explore the spectacular monastery at Mount Popa, which sits precariously on top of a volcanic plug. In the evening, enjoy some Myanmar wine over dinner by the pagodas.
Fly to Mandalay and visit the last royal palace of the Konbaung dynasty, recounting the final days of Thibaw and his queen, Supayalat, before they were expelled to India by the British. Visit the sacred Mahamuni Pagoda and receive a blessing for auspicious travels and then climb the 1729 steps up Mandalay Hill (or catch the lift up!) to be rewarded with a stunning sunset.
Play at the delightful 18-hole Yaytakhon Taung Golf Course and then enjoy a free evening in Mandalay, which has a number of great restaurants and some excellent street food; at night, the streets of the Muslim quarter serves up some of the tastiest barbequed mutton.
Take a morning flight to Heho and transfer to the Ayetharyar Golf Resort, where you will enjoy some great golf in the scenic Shan hills and you will stay the night.
After breakfast the next day drive to Inle Lake and take boat to visit the ancient lakeside stupas at Indein and see handicrafts in Nampan village. If the time is right, see the floating markets that are a photographer’s dream. Finish up your day with sunset wine tasting at Red Mountain Estate vineyard and then dinner on the lakeshore.
Depart Heho to Yangon and, after checking into your hotel, wander around the bustling streets and try some sweet laphayet (Myanmar tea) at one of the many tea shops and pair it with some fresh ee char kway, a deep fried dough snack to be really naughty on the last day of your tour. Wander the colonial streets and buy some gifts for back home at the famous Bogyoke Market.
Get driven to Gary Player-designed Pun Hlaing Golf Course to tackle another 18 rounds. In the evening, feel free to enjoy one of the many newly-established eateries and bars around downtown Yangon, such as the Rangoon Teahouse on Pansodan Street, which serves up modern Myanmar fare in a beautifully restored building.
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel before taking a private car to Yangon International Airport for departure.
